Jack Killin Photo Collection

"I hope these photos are useful for the history of St Anthony. I don't know the people in them and cannot identify my grandmother (Lillian Gillard) - in all but a few. Please, let me know what your research reveals".

Bob Shomler Photo Collection

Bob Shomler recently ran across an old box of slide photos he had taken in St Anthony during Spring & Summer of 1961. (50+ years ago).. It's rare to find high quality colour slides from this era. The photos depict (a) West Street, before it was paved (b) Aerial photos of town, (c) the military base and (d) air travel in 1961.. Apparently, there's more photos that could soon be restored.. (Stay tuned..)..

The Mikado Theatre Production at Grenfell

A community theatre production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Mikado, rehearsed and presented at the Grenfell (May or June 1961). Most of the performers were Grenfell staff, as I recall. I no longer have notes and program information from these -- wonder if anyone will recognize any of the performers?

This is a picture taken in 1955 of the shop owned and operated by Alwyn Sansford's parents, (Ernest and Mae Sansford), as a General Store. The building was originally the St.Anthony Post Office, which was hauled across the road. In later years, Alwyn's father widened and lengthened the shop. This store was in operation from the late 1940's to the early 1970's - when it was torn down. The people in the photo are Olive Penney, Mae Sansford, Ernest Sansford Laura Watton and Doris Sansford.. The Capital Theatre in St. Anthony (July 1959)

The Capitol theater in St. Anthony. They showed movies, like the "3 Stooges", William Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy (He was a super hero at the time), Johnny Mack Brown & Gene Autry. The theatre was located directly across the street from the provincial court house. The property where it stood, along with Sansford's General Store was at the forefront of the Sansford properties (Ernest Sansford was owner of both the General Store & the Capitol Theatre) - that property now belongs to a Mr. Ebsary.
